It's that time of the season again! Elections for a new Executive Committee will come up in September this year, with the current EC's term due to expire then.

Election Officer

We are delighted to share that Mr Rakesh Munjal has kindly agreed to be our Election Officer.

Mr. Munjal is a distinguished legal professional with a multifaceted career spanning over four decades. Having completed an LL.B. from Campus Law Centre, University of Delhi in 1979, he commenced his legal practice the same year. Between 1979 and 1986, he served as the Joint Secretary of the Income Tax Bar for three consecutive terms. Subsequently, he transitioned to practice in the High Court, Supreme Court, and various other High Courts across India. In January 2001, he was designated as a Senior Advocate by the Delhi High Court.

His contributions to the legal community are noteworthy. From 2002 to 2006, he was elected as a Senior Member of the Executive Committee of the Supreme Court Bar Association. Additionally, he was associated with the Indian Law Institute (ILI), a deemed university, from 1992 to 2016, serving as a member of its Governing Council, Executive Council, and Academic Council. During his tenure, he was elected Vice President of ILI from 2010 to 2016. His association with ILI also included representing the institute at BRICS LAW in Shanghai. Furthermore, he had the privilege of visiting esteemed institutions such as Harvard University, Boston, Philadelphia University, and Georgia University in Atlanta. In the realm of legal welfare, he served as the Managing Trustee of the Delhi High Court Advocates Welfare Trust from 2019 to 2024. Presently, he holds the position of President of the SAARCLAW India chapter, having previously served as its Vice President. His affiliation with SAARCLAW dates back to 1997. Moreover, he has been a member of the Governing Council of Chanakya National Law University, Patna, and National Law University, Visakhapatnam, contributing to the development of legal education in India.

With a notable background and involvement in various legal organizations, Mr. Munjal's contributions and expertise in the legal field are highly regarded.

Redressal Committee

Also, as per the requirements of the ByeLaws, we are required to put together a three-member Redressal Committee to support the Election Officer in case of any complaints or disputes with regards to any nominations.

We are delighted to share that we have put the Committee together, with people of expertise and integrity.

1. Ms. Jyoti Dogra Sood
Ms. Jyoti Dogra is a Professor of Law at the University of Delhi. She served as a faculty at the Indian Law Institute for over two decades. Her areas of interest are Criminal Law, Juvenile Justice , Gender justice and Human Rights. She is a visiting faculty at the National Judicial Academy, State Judicial Academies , NHRC, NIA and various universities across India . She has published in various journals and has co edited a book “Rethinking Law and Violence” She was a member of the Committee which drafted the Living Conditions in Institutions for Children in Conflict with Law Manual March 2017. She is presently the legal member of CARA Ministry of Women and Child Development, Government of India.

2. Ms. Renjini Rajagopalan
Ms. Renjini Rajagopalan is a lawyer and policy professional who has worked across areas of public policy research, advocacy, and program implementation. She works at the intersection of gender, labour, and social welfare research, and currently serves as Research Lead at the Center for Gender Analysis, JustJobs Network in Delhi. Previously, she has been part of the founding teams of The Udaiti Foundation, and The Quantum Hub (TQH), and worked in public sector consulting at EY. A recipient of the LAMP Fellowship, she has also been a legislative aide to Indian Parliamentarians and led research for state governments. She holds an LL.M (International Human Rights) from LSE, UK and a B.A. LLB (Hons.) from NUALS, India.

3. Mr. Lov Verma
Mr. Verma, a retired officer from the Indian Administrative Service, belongs to the 1978 batch of the Uttar Pradesh Cadre. With a remarkable tenure of over 37 years, he possesses a wealth of administrative expertise across a diverse range of assignments. Throughout his career, he held various senior positions within the Government of Uttar Pradesh, including notable roles in the State Departments of Health, Finance, Industry, and Public Works. He also served on the ground as a District Magistrate and Divisional Commissioner in Uttar Pradesh, along with a significant stint as the Principal Secretary to the Governor. He concluded his distinguished career in 2016, serving as the Secretary to the Government of India in the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disability, under the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment.
