MEET OUR NEW EC MEMBER

We are delighted to have Suchitra Chitale join the EC. Suchitra is from the 1983 Batch of Political Science, and is a lawyer and Managing Partner of Chitale and Chitale Partners, Delhi. Suchitra brings to the team a wealth of legal expertise and experience and is excited at the opportunity to give back to LSR.

ASHA NEHEMIAH, BANGALORE
Asha Nehemiah is a popular author with children of all age groups. Wonderfully funny characters get into wacky adventures in her stories. Her book ‘The Grand Chapati Contest’ has been included on the Parag Honour List 2022.

PRITI DAVID - BANGALORE
Coming Home has made Tata Trusts, Parag Honour List 2022. In her debut children's novel set in Sittilingi Valley in Tamil Nadu, Priti, a rural journalist - explores the issues of education and migration through the story of a school where a set of earnest, resourceful, and ambitious children find a way to bring home the people they love.

ELSA RINTU THOMAS CO-DIRECTED THE FIRST INDIAN DOCUMENTARY NOMINATED TO THE OSCARS!

Writing with Fire is a 2021 Indian documentary film directed by filmmakers Rintu Thomas and Sushmit Ghosh about the journalists running the Dalit women led newspaper Khabar Lahariya, as they shift from 14-years of print to digital journalism using smartphones. Rintu Thomas is a 2006 English (Hons.) LSR Grad.
'In the centre of a room with a group clustered around a TV set on which the Academy Award nominations 2022 are being announced is filmmaker Rintu Thomas, excitement and tension are palpable on her face. Only five names for the nominations for feature documentary, but it seems like eternity and just when the moment may slip by, Writing with Fire is announced.

UMA MAGAL - ELSA , HYDERABAD

The documentary ‘Other Kohinoors: The Rocks of Hyderabad is a much needed visual essay, to remind the City of Nizams, how the Deccan rocks are entrenched in its collective cultural memory.

The documentary is an ongoing project of independent filmmaker Uma Magal - our ELSA from Hyderabad.

This documentary explores Hyderabad’s cultural connection with rocks. Interspersed with poetry, language, humor, lores, crafts, cuisines, art and filmography, the documentary is a colourful take on rocks.

We will also have 2 students from the LSR Entrepreneurship Cell on this Fireside Chat for some immersive learning.

Our Advocacy Initiative -
February 26, 2022

This event is part of ONE BILLION RISING (OBR) which is the biggest MASS ACTION to end violence against women.
The campaign began as A CALL TO ACTION based on the staggering statistic that 1 in 3 WOMEN on the planet will be beaten up or raped during her lifetime. With the world population at 7 BILLION, this adds up to more than 1 BILLION GIRLS AND WOMEN.
